as a former… uh … tabacco… smoker i’ve tried this several ways… the way i found to work the best with the least amount of work and best results follows.
grab some tongs or something you can hold your pipe sturdy with.
turn on the faucet, hot. let the water run until it is really hot.
hold the pipe, mouth piece up, under the flow of water so that the hot water is coming out through the bowl and carb.
it may take a minute or so before chunks of resin start to come out, but they’ll start pushing their way through.
continue to hold it this way until there are no chunks coming out.
then turn it so that the water is going in through the carb and the keep turning it so that it get’s anything on the other side of the bowl, turning it allows anything in there to come out through the mouthpiece.
if the bowl is still dirty, let the water hit that until it loosens up.
turn it so the water flows in through the mouthpiece again.
by now you will see what else needs to be rinsed.
there will be a few stragglers in there, but they will be very easy to wipe of so grab a couple q-tips and wipe away. they bend so you can reach it all the way around the bowl.
lastly, some of the resin is going to hit the sink and stick there, make sure you clorox wipe it or sponge clean it right away. the longer it sits, the more difficult it is to clean.
if you boil it, the resin will stick to your pot, why i liked this method better.
all in all, it takes less than five minutes.
